Boston 2015 Thoughts

I'm about two weeks out from the start of the training for the 2015 Boston Marathon.  As I've read the thoughts I posted just after the 2014 Boston event, I'm making decisions about how to approach the race this year...including how to approach training after Boston which will put me about 14 weeks out from Ironman.

My thinking now:
- Use the Hanson's Marathon Method as a basis for training this year.  Seems do-able in all ways except I worry about being able to pull off the Thursday tempo runs at the end of a long day at work.
- Definitely do some hill workouts at marathon pace...I could see this being on a Tuesday interval workout day with repeat 1200s of 1600s on hospital hill or on Hines.
- My recent work to improve my diet needs to continue.  While I feel cognitively great on a plant based diet, I'm struggling with physical energy.  I likely need to start keeping a food diary to see if I'm really getting the appropriate nutrients.
- Should consider substituting Friday runs with bike workouts.
- Should consider adding in a swim workout on Saturdays.
- Should try to lift at least once a week.
- Time for a new Garmin.  While I've been more off the Garmin than on the last 10 months, I'm excited to get my hands on a new Garmin 920xt....maybe for Xmas.  As Shashy says, "there's no such thing as too much data."  I get that...but also realize I need to put the data away for periods of time to maximize enjoyment.  I'm in balance at this point.

Looking forward to this.

Quote of the Day

"I loved the feeling of freedom in running, the fresh air, the feeling that the only person I'm competing with is me." - Wilma Rudolph
